S.H.A.P.E. Assessment Results
Thank you John Schwanda for taking the SHAPE Assessment. We encourage you to meet with a Church Leader that you respect, to go over your results, so that they can help you discover a place to serve in the church and/or community, and also to help you fine-tune your 5 Main Focuses/Priorities listed at the bottom of this email under the ‘Wrapping it up’ section. May God Bless You!

1. Spend time with my family
2. Spending time out doors and getting exercise
3. Learning more about scripture and what God wants me to do.
I used to like to work with high school aged kids in Boy Scouts and Young Life, but I think I am too old. I still like to work with younger people and people my own age, mostly with those with similar beliefs.
Serving the needs of the local community as an example of what Jesus would do. I actually enjoyed being in a position of leadership the last couple years, because I think I did a fairly good job at it.

Your Primary was ‘The Beaver’, with your Secondary coming in as ‘The Lion’, and here are the descriptions of your Personalities, and how they can be used for God
Beaver- Organized. Beavers think that there is a right way to do everything and they want to do it exactly that way. Beaver personalities are very creative. They desire to solve everything. Desire to take their time and do it right. Beavers do not like sudden changes. They need reassurance.
Strength: High standards, order, respect
Weakness: Unrealistic expectations of self & others, too perfect.
Limitation: Seeing the optimistic side of things, expressing flexibility
Lion- This personality likes to lead. The lion is good at making decisions and is very goal-oriented. They enjoy challenges, difficult assignments, and opportunity for advancement. Because lions are thinking of the goal, they can step on people to reach it. Lions can be very aggressive and competitive. Lions must learn not to be too bossy or to take charge in other’s affairs.
Strength: Goal-oriented, strong, direct
Weakness: Argumentative, too dictatorial
Limitation: Doesn’t understand that directness can hurt others, hard time expressing grace
[E]xperience
Raised in a UCC church but did not get it. Fell away in college. After marriage we realized we needed to be in a church for ourselves and our kids. Christian neighbor asked some probing questions that made me feel I needed to make a decision and no longer be on the fence.
1979-1983 at United Parish of Carver, MA
1988-1996 at First Parish Church Congregational of Freeport, UCC;
1997 to present First Baptist Church of Freeport
My parents, though I am not sure about their actual commitment to Jesus, were a good example of church and community servants and good parents.
Expectations were high, though not unreasonable, in my family and we were all raised to be hard workers and to give back.
My first church community, after marriage, when I was really a new believer. I got a good foundation there in the church and with Christian friends outside our church.
Maybe I am in denial, but I have been blessed with a happy healthy childhood in a functional family with parents who lived into their 80’s and 90’s. I have 4 children who are believers with spouses who are too. I can not think of negative experiences that have shaped me or given me special compassion for others.
Wrapping It Up
The Challenge: Based upon your S.H.A.P.E. Assessment above (the way God wired you), If you knew you couldn’t fail … and ‘lack of money, or time’ was not an obstacle… list your Top 3 Things you would ‘Focus’ your Life on, next to #1 Loving God & #2 Loving Your Neighbor (these would be your ‘3 God-Sized Dreams’ for your life)?
1. My Relationship with GOD
2. My Relationship with Others
- Putting Your Spouse First
- Your Kids Second
- Everyone Else After those
3. I would start a men’s group in our church, open to all in the community, that would have a monthly breakfast followed by a day of work for one or more people who need help in our community.
4. If I had the contacts, the personality and the money I would revive Young Life in Freeport to try to reach the unchurched kids in town.
5. I wish that I had the ability to talk about God to unchurched neighbors or work associates that would entice them to seek a relationship with God.
